CMDKP Spotlight: Dongkeun (DK) Jang

Dongkeun (DK) Jang, (https://orcid.org/0009-0000-5947-1067) a member of the AMP® CMD Portal Team, is a Senior UI/UX architect for the Knowledge Portals at The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. 

Dongkeun’s scientific background and interest

Dongkeun (DK) serves as lead user experience and design engineer for the CMDKP. DK joined the Broad Institute in 2008 after 10 years working in digital media design and development and after 6 years in traditional media design as a self-employed designer and web developer. He received an MFA in traditional design and digital media design from Hong-ik University in Seoul, Korea, and the Mass College of Art in Boston. He has expertise in designing and developing UI systems for web applications with graphics editing tools and programming languages such as Javascript, jQuery, jQueryUI, PHP, CSS and HTML5. DK’s current research interests include the development of CMD Knowledge Portals.

Reflections on AMP-CMD and the CMDKP

DK contributes to the user interface and experience (UI/UX) of content represented on the AMP-CMD Knowledge Portals. He oversees the development of CMDKP and sets the long-term UI/UX goals of the Knowledge portals. From the standpoint of the development team, what excites DK is his contribution to delivering complex scientific data requiring extensive work when turning meaningful knowledge into easier, faster, and more accessible, comprehensive formats for researchers.

Life outside the lab

Outside of work, DK enjoys spending weekends on the water fishing, on warmer days.
