Variants located in obesity-associated GWAS loci were tested for cell type specific or cross-tissue enhancer modulating properties using a massively parallel reporter assay. These results were then integrated with gene regulatory annotations generated across cellular differentiation stages of adipocytes and hypothalamic neurons to predict candidate effector genes for obesity.
