Project

The Asian Genetic Epidemiology Network (AGEN) is a consortium of genetic epidemiology studies of T2D and related traits conducted in individuals of East Asian ancestry. The Diabetes Meta-analysis of Trans-ethnic Association Studies (DIAMANTE) is a consortium examining the genetic contribution to T2D across diverse ancestry populations including African American, East Asian, European, Hispanic, and South Asian.

Experiment summary

The East Asian AGEN and DIAMANTE study meta-analyzed 23 T2D GWAS in 433,530 individuals from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and the US. All studies were imputed to 1000G Phase 3 except for a subset of Biobank Japan, which was imputed to the 1000G Phase 1 reference panel. 301 distinct association signals were identified at 183 loci. Across T2D association models with and without consideration of body mass index and sex, 61 loci were identified that are newly implicated in T2D predisposition.
