Experiment summary
This meta-analysis by the Global Urate Genetics Consortium (GUGC) determined associations with serum urate concentrations across 48 genome-wide association studies for 110,347 individuals of European ancestry. Elevated serum urate concentrations are linked to the risk of gout. Loci associated with decreased serum urate concentrations cluster with other loci associated with liver function and lipid metabolism to potentially identify biochemical pathways involved in a sub-type of type 2 diabetes, as described in:
