This genome-wide association study analyzed 41,917 bipolar disorder cases and 371,549 controls of European ancestry, identifying 64 associated loci. Risk variants were enriched in synaptic signaling pathways and genes highly expressed in neurons of the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus.
